I would much rather have people hate my art than hate my guts..
This is a really broad statement you're making here, and it needs some clarification.. what exactly are you against..? people disliking (certain/your) art in general..? or just them telling you so..? or the hateful ones in particular..? what if it's constructive criticism..?
I would say it depends on your self confidence.. If you're a beginner and unsure of your skills making art in public, then you don't need hateful comments to bring you down.. you need encouragement.. On the other hand, if you're overconfident and cocky, then haters will be good to bring you back down to earth..
Good artists know how to embrace both their fans and their hates..
